The Netflix Tag

This tag was created by Annie Writes Beauty (though I first spotted it on Flutter and Sparkle)  I'd thought I'd share my answers and hope you enjoy it!

1. All Time Favourite
So far I've watched Lie To Me, Once Upon A Time and Sense and Sensibility, but my favourite TV series has got to be Pretty Little Liars. PLL begins with the disappearance of queen bee Alison Dilaurentis. Her friends Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily soon become the target of threatening texts and blackmail over their innermost secrets. These texts and the scary situations the girls find themselves in are masterminded by someone called A, but they've yet to work out who A actually is.

As for my favourite films I couldn't find any available on Netflix right now but my favourites include Dirty Dancing 2 Havana nights, Singin in the Rain, A Room With A View, The Motorcycle Diaries and Step Up 4.

2. Currently Watching and Current Addiction
My current addiction is definitely Prison Break. The show begins with Lincoln Burrows being framed for murder by a group known as The Company. His brother Michael Schofield is determined to break him out of prison. It then becomes a game of cat and mouse between The Company and the brothers. It's addictive because they always finish each episode on such great cliff hangers. I'm also watching Charmed and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries which is a detective drama set in Australia during the twenties- it's a little like Poirot.

3. On your wish list
It would have to be Hart of Dixie, the first two seasons were shown on the UK Really channel but then they dropped it despite the show running for four seasons in the U.S. Hart of Dixie is about Zoe Hart (played by Rachel Bilson) a New York surgeon who is told to improve her beside manner. When she relocates to small town Bluebell in Alabama to be a family doctor, it's definitely is a learning curve for her. Sweet but entertaining rom com I really liked this show. Also I haven't seen all the series of Smallville the show about Superman's teenage years that stars Tom Welling. Also I wouldn't mind seeing Round The Twist or Alex Mac just to reminisce about my childhood!

4. Net Peeve
The US packages also include dvds and they get much wider choice and see shows earlier than in the UK which is annoying. The main problem, though it hasn't happened to me yet, is watching a series and then it's taken off before you've finished watching them all, because the licence for that show has expired.

5. Marathon Essentials
A duvet or sofa and I would say chocolate (like black it goes with everything) but am trying not to eat sweet things at the moment.

6. You Should Watch
Lie to Me, a friend recommended this and I really liked it. It's about Cal Lightman a body language and deception expert. His company The Lightman Group are hired in various situations such as finding out if a criminal has truly reformed, investigating cover ups, identifying terrorists and murderers. Great acting, storylines and I liked the relationships between Cal and his daughter Emily and business Partner Dr Gillian Foster. Another show I would recommend is Sherlock, the BBC has successfully brought Sherlock into the modern age of mobiles, twitter and nicotine patches. Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect as the socially awkward genius Sherlock Holmes. Gossip girl is great as well. If you like period dramas I'd recommend Mr Selfridge.
What I love about Netflix...
  • It's affordable entertainment that costs less per month than the price of one ticket to the cinema.
  • It's given me an appreciation for black and white films. I had watched a few black and white films before but not many. After watching Hitchcock's Rear Window, Vertigo and The Lady Vanishes on Netflix I liked them so much I decide that one of my goals is to watch all of his films- all 50 of them! It gave me a taste of film noir when I watched Sorry Wrong Number, Double Indemnity and No Man Of Her Own. Film Noir was featured  a lot in my favourite show Pretty Little Liars but I never really connected with it apart from the episode where all the characters were in a Film Noir of their own. I also loved the dialogue in His Girl Friday which is about a man called Walter Burns a newspaper editor who finds out his ex-wife and former staff reporter Hildy, is about to marry a boring insurance man and he tries everything to get her back. Hildy is rather like Lois Lane the unstoppable journalist in Superman and the two stars have great chemistry and although I to use the expression have 'great banter' together.
  • Foreign Language TV shows. I don't mind films with subtitles so many of them have been my favourites at one time of another (Amelie, The Motorcycle Diaries, Spirited Away.)  But I never really got an opportunity to watch foreign language TV shows until I subbed to Netflix. I've been loving their Spanish shows, the stand out, binge watch shows include Las Chicas Del Cable (Cable Girls), The Grand Hotel and Ingobernable.

The Autumn Tag

With Autumn now upon us I've decided to have a go answering the autumn tag by the lovely Georgina from Makeup Pixi3. Hopefully it will give you all a chance to get to know me a bit better too!

1. Ok we're talking Coffees what's your favourite seasonal drink from Starbucks/ Coasta/Cafe Nero etc?
The Luxury Hot Chocolate from Cafe Nero, it's so rich and chocolatey its to die for! It's also delicious as a takeaway/contraband drink sneaked into the movies!

2. Accessories - what do you opt for, scarf, boots, gloves?
It's all about Snoods for me: they're great because there's no trailing scarf and they're harder to lose because the fabric is in a loop. My favourite is Oliver Bonas animal snood. I might look for some touch screen  gloves this year.

3. Music - what's your favourite music to listen to during Autumn?
I don't really change my music according to season and I only get the Christmas music out a week or two before the big day otherwise it's too much.At the moment I'm listening to a lot of Taylor Swift, Trespassers William, Lissie and Ellie Goulding.

4. Perfume - what's your favourite scent for this time of year?
I generally stick to my signature DNKY Be delicious see my DNKY Be delicious review here

5. Candles - what scents will you be burning this season?
I don't use candles because it triggers my asthma.

 6. What do you love most about Autumn?
Sunday night period drama wrapped up in a fleece blanket. I also love watching the leaves turning orange and red and yellow. Also seeing conkers because it was a school  obsession when I was growing up so it reminds me of that.

7. Favourite make up look?
In the past it's been a grey/silver smoky eye with pink lipstick but now I'm more adventurous I'm going to start using Maybelline's colour tattoo in Pomegranate  and wear more berry lipstick.
I also love Bobbi Brown's pot rouge (Blush and lip cream)  in powder pink as it gives that flushed just come out from the cold look.

8. What are you looking forward to most in Autumn?
My birthday and Christmas! Also finding a nice pub in London with a fire to sit and read and start my writing  (I'm in the process of writing a novel) if anyone has any suggestions please let me know in the comments.

The Romantic Blogger Tag

I thought that this tag would be perfect for Valentine's Day. This Romantic Beauty Blogger Tag was created by Tianna from Storybook Apothecary, but I came across it on Breige Mcbride's blog Beauty And The Best of The Rest.

1) What is your favourite romantic film and why?

A Room With A View This film is about a young woman named Lucy Honeychurch in the restrictive and repressed culture of Edwardian England, and her developing love for a free-spirited young man, George Emerson. It's set partly in Italy so the scenery is beautiful and it's nice to see Lucy becoming more sure of her opinions and being able to be her true self.

Gran Hotel. This Spanish TV series begins with working class Julio Olmedo trying to find his missing sister at the Grand Hotel where she worked. He is convinced something happened to her at the hotel so he goes undercover as a waiter. He soon finds an ally in Alicia the daughter of the hotel's owner Doña Teresa. Alicia is being forced to marry hotel manager Diego Murquía who is considered a good match but she ends up falling for Julio. I totally ship the love story between Alicia and Julio. The show is available on Netflix.

2) Which character from a film or book is your ideal romantic character and why?

A Room With a View
George (right) because however idealistic loves makes him, it also makes him fight for the girl he likes. He has a good heart and is the opposite of her stuffy and reserved fiance. I can't stand fussiness in men and George isn't that.

One Tree Hill
Lucus (Left) I love the character of Lucus, he's kind, gets on with everyone and has a good heart.

3) Your ideal love life in a song -go!

Santana's Love Of My Life (Listen here)
'Where you are that's where I wanna be
And through your eyes, see all the things I want to see
And in the night you are my dream
You're everything to me
You are the love of my life
And the breath in my prayers
Take my hand lead me there
What I need is you there.'

Elton John's Your Song (Listen here),
Yes I know it's cheesy but I love the lyrics
'I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is when you're in the world.'

4) A Song that makes you cry
Adele's Someone Like You (Listen here). Her voice is so beautiful and the lyrics are about heartbreak, loss and regret but also a little hope.

5)Film that's guaranteed to make you cry every time
Pearl Harbour or The Forsyte Saga based on John Galworthy's novels of three generations of the Forsyte family with family rifts, alliances  and complicated love triangles.

6) What are your favourite colours for romantic make up looks?
Pink eye shadow smoked out with a dark brown crease and eyeliner with pink lipstick and light pink blush.

7) Favourite hair style for a soft romantic look?
I love curls probably because I have straight hair and you always want what you can't have! I love the 1950's retro curls. The updo is gorgous with all the hair jewellery tied across the head. I alos like loose waves for a more relaxed look.

8) Which female heroines do you most identify with from a book or movie?

  • Elizabeth Bennet. (Pride and Prejudice) She is intelligent and witty. Also despite the fact that her family doesn't have a male air and that her mother wishes to marry all her daughters as quickly as possible, Elizabeth refuses to settle or be with someone she cannot respect. She sticks to her guns and this ultimately leads her to true happiness. She is kind but assertive and can't be easily intimidated.
  • Bridget Jones. It's OK not to be 100% perfect
  • I wish I had the comeback lines of Beatrice (Much ado about Nothing.)
9) Ideal romance life exists in which period?
     Jane Austen Regency period.

10) What are you wearing in this hypothetical romance?
A dress of course! In regency costume, pretty but easy to dance in. Or a 1940's/1950's figure hugging Marylin Monroe style. Or a beaded 1920's flapper dress. Too many choices!
